    What the annual test includes

    • Every fitting run for its full rated duration, usually three hours

    • Maintained, non-maintained, self-test and central battery systems
    • Failed batteries and lamps replaced on the day where we can
    • Logbook completed and the certificate issued on the day
    • A monthly test routine set up for you, or self-test fittings quoted
    • Booked on the same visit as the fire alarm service
    • A reminder before next year's test

    Emergency lighting in Hackney

Warehouse conversions in Hackney often have long, high spaces and stairs that have been moved or added over the years, so the emergency lighting that was designed for one layout may not suit the current one. Bars and venues along Kingsland Road need maintained fittings while the public are in. We test what is installed for its full duration, check it still lights the routes people actually use and quote for any changes.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does emergency lighting testing cost in Hackney?

The annual full-duration test is from £150 + VAT with a certificate. If we service your fire alarm, we do both on the same visit. Larger buildings are priced after a free survey, and repairs are quoted at a fixed price first.

How often does emergency lighting need testing?

A short function test every month, normally done by someone on site and written in the logbook, and a full rated-duration test once a year by a competent person, as BS 5266-1 and BS EN 50172 set out.

Can you test the emergency lighting and service the fire alarm together?

Yes, and most customers prefer it: one visit, one contractor and both certificates on the day. Emergency lighting is part of every servicing contract we offer.

What happens if fittings fail the test?

We replace failed batteries and lamps on the day where we can. Anything else, such as a whole fitting or a missing sign, comes back to you as a fixed price before we do it.

Our building was converted and the stairs moved. Is our emergency lighting still right?

Maybe not. Emergency lighting is designed around the escape routes, so if stairs or exits move, fittings can end up in the wrong place. We check the coverage against the current layout on the annual test.
