Carbon Reduction Plan

Published October 2026. Reporting period 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026. Prepared in line with PPN 006.

Security Red Alert commits to net zero by 2030. Our estimated footprint for the 12 months to 30 September 2026 is 19.6 tCO2e, and 87% of it comes from our diesel vans and the office gas heating.

What the plan coversAll operations under our operational control: the office at Security House, our van fleet, and our engineers' work on customer sites (fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, door entry and emergency lighting).

    Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Security Red Alert is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030, twenty years ahead of the 2050 date set by the government for its suppliers.

For us, net zero means cutting our gross emissions by at least 75% against the 2025/26 baseline, then balancing what remains with certified carbon removals. We will not use offsets in place of the cuts set out in this plan.

    Baseline emissions footprint

    Baseline year: 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026.

This is our first carbon footprint, so the baseline is an estimate built from our fleet size, office energy use and staff numbers (see Methodology). It will be replaced with measured fuel, meter and waste records when the plan is next updated.

    Current emissions reporting

Reporting year: 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026, the same as the baseline because this is our first plan. The table shows where the 19.6 tCO2e comes from.

    Emissions reduction targets

Net zero by 2030: gross emissions cut by three quarters, and the rest removed. Reporting years run 1 October to 30 September.

    YearStatusEmissions (tCO2e a year)Against baseline
    2025/26Baseline (estimate)19.6n/a
    2026/27Target16.715% lower
    2027/28Target12.735% lower
    2028/29Target7.860% lower
2029/30Net zero4.5, balanced by 4.5 of certified removals77% lower gross, net zero

Most of the cut comes from replacing our three diesel vans with electric vans between 2027/28 and 2029/30. Progress against each year's target is reported when this plan is updated.

    Carbon reduction projects

    Completed carbon reduction initiatives

The following measures are already in place and will be in effect when the contract is performed:

    • Paperless paperwork. Quotations, invoices, job sheets, service reports and certificates are produced, signed and emailed from our own job management app. This removes printing and posting, and the trips back to sites to collect signatures.
    • Online customer portal. Customers view their certificates, service dates and invoices online, so we no longer post copies.
    • One shared job calendar. Every visit is booked in one calendar that all engineers and the office can see, so jobs can be planned around each other.

    Planned carbon reduction measures

Savings overlap (for example, route planning saves less once the vans are electric), so they are not added up here; the combined effect is the trajectory under Emissions reduction targets.

    Environmental management plan

This plan sets out how we control our wider environmental impact on every contract, alongside the carbon targets above. Akhtar Shah, Director, is responsible for it and reviews it every year.

    Waste, WEEE and batteries

    • We follow the waste hierarchy: avoid waste first, then reuse, recycle, and only then dispose.
    • Old panels, detectors, cameras and other electrical equipment removed from site go to a registered WEEE treatment facility, never into general waste.
    • Lead acid and lithium standby batteries go to a registered battery recycler. A waste transfer note or consignment note is kept for every collection.
    • Cable offcuts and packaging are bagged on site, taken back to Security House and separated for recycling. We leave every site clean.

    Equipment and materials

    • We choose low-power equipment where it meets the specification: LED emergency lighting, PoE CCTV and long-life batteries.
    • We repair and reuse working equipment where it is safe and compliant, instead of replacing it.
    • Stock is ordered in planned, combined orders to cut deliveries and part-empty trips to wholesalers.

    Travel and vehicles

    • Visits are planned by area, and engineers carry the common parts to finish jobs in one visit.
    • No engine idling on site; tyres and servicing are kept to the manufacturer's schedule.
    • Remote checks and fixes are used where the customer's system allows, before sending an engineer.

    Work on site

    • Dust and debris from drilling are controlled with dust sheets and extraction, and noisy work is agreed with the site manager.
    • No hazardous substances are used beyond small amounts of sealant and cleaning products, stored and disposed of to their safety data sheets.
    • Any spill or environmental incident is reported to the site manager and to Akhtar Shah on the day.

    Suppliers

    • We prefer suppliers and manufacturers with their own carbon reduction plans, take-back schemes and recyclable packaging.
    • We ask our main wholesalers for their emissions data, so our next footprint can use supplier figures.

    Training

    • Every engineer is briefed on this plan when they start and at least once a year: waste and WEEE handling, battery disposal, driving standards and incident reporting.

    Methodology

    • Standard: GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, operational control boundary, covering all Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and the five Scope 3 categories required by PPN 006 (4, 5, 6, 7 and 9).
    • Conversion factors: UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors for company reporting, 2026 set, because most of the reporting period falls in 2026. Electricity is reported location-based. Figures are in tonnes of CO2e and cover the seven Kyoto gases.
    • Data: this first footprint is an estimate from the following assumptions: 3 diesel vans at 12,000 miles a year each; one office using 8,000 kWh of electricity and 12,000 kWh of gas a year; 6 staff, of whom 3 office staff commute by Tube; 1,500 miles of business travel in staff cars; 1.5 tonnes of general waste. No refrigerant gases are held.
    • Next update: by 31 March 2027 (within six months of the reporting year end), using fuel card records, meter readings and waste transfer notes in place of the estimates. The baseline will be restated with the measured figures.
    • Publication: the current plan is published on our website with a link from the home page, and a copy is given to anyone who asks within 30 days.
