We are hiring · London SW17

    Fire & Security Engineer

Experienced engineer wanted to install and maintain fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms and access control across London. Full-time, permanent, based out of our Summerstown SW17 office, with most jobs in South London. Handy if you live around Tooting, Mitcham, Croydon, Sutton, Wimbledon or Morden.

£27,000 to £35,000 a year, depending on experience. Full-time, permanent, company van included.

    What we need from you

    Industry experience

Time served in fire and security is what we are really after — fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms or access control. If you have come from a related electrical trade and know the systems, we want to hear from you.

    Full UK driving licence

The role is mobile. You will be moving between sites across London, so a clean-ish licence and confidence driving in town are essential.

    Comfortable with electrical work

Containment, cabling, terminations and testing should be second nature. Formal qualifications such as 18th Edition are welcome but experience counts for more.

    The day to day

    • Fire alarm installation, servicing and fault-finding to BS 5839
    • CCTV, intruder alarm and access control installation and maintenance
    • Emergency lighting, AOV smoke ventilation and remedial works
    • First-fix and second-fix containment, cabling and terminations
    • Certification and service paperwork issued on every visit
    • Reactive callouts across our London service area

Useful but not essential: 18th Edition, ECS/CSCS, IPAF or PASMA, and experience with Texecom, Hikvision or Paxton equipment. If you are strong in one discipline and willing to learn the others, still apply — we train across.

    Why work here

A London patch, not the motorway

Our office is in Summerstown SW17 and most of our work sits in South and South West London: Tooting, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Morden, Croydon, Sutton, Carshalton and Streatham. If you live round there, your first job is usually a short hop rather than an hour on the A3.

    Real variety

Fire alarms one day, CCTV or an AOV service the next. You will broaden across disciplines rather than repeating the same install for years.

    Company van

You get a company van, so your own motor stays off the job and you are not fitting ladders into an estate car.

    An established firm

20+ years trading, SSAIB approved for intruder alarms, with a steady book of London landlords, managing agents and commercial clients. The work does not dry up.

    Questions engineers ask

Do I need to be a qualified electrician?

No. You need to be genuinely comfortable with electrical work — containment, cabling, terminations and testing — but a formal electrical qualification is not essential. 18th Edition is a bonus rather than a requirement.

    What does it pay?

£27,000 to £35,000 a year depending on your experience and how multi-skilled you are. It is full-time and permanent, and a company van comes with the job. If you are strong across fire, CCTV and intruder, you are at the top end of that.

What areas would I be covering?

Mostly South and South West London: Tooting, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Morden, Streatham, Croydon, Thornton Heath, Sutton, Carshalton, Wallington, Kingston and the surrounding neighbourhoods, run from our Summerstown SW17 office. We cover all 32 boroughs, but the bulk of the work is close to home, so engineers living in South London spend far less of the day driving.

    Is this full-time and permanent?

Yes, this is a full-time permanent position. If you are a subcontractor with strong fire and security experience looking for regular work, get in touch as well and we will talk.

What if my experience is in one discipline only?

That is fine. Plenty of good engineers come from a fire alarm background with limited CCTV, or the reverse. If you are strong in one area and willing to learn the others, apply — we will train across.

    How do I apply?

Use the 30-second application form on this page, email your CV to admin@securityredalert.com, or call the office on 020 8946 5567. No covering letter needed.

Know someone who would suit this?

Most good engineers come to us through word of mouth. If this sounds like someone you have worked with, pass it on — or take a look at the systems we install to see the kind of work involved.
