Emergency lighting in Islington
Islington's emergency lighting is mostly on escape routes: the stairs and corridors of blocks and converted houses, the basements and back stairs of restaurants and bars on Upper Street, and the stairwells of converted warehouses in Clerkenwell. After refurbishments we often find fittings removed or painted over. We run every fitting for its full duration, record each one and quote anything that needs adding or replacing.

Frequently asked questions
How much does emergency lighting testing cost in Islington?
The annual full-duration test is from £150 + VAT with a certificate. If we service your fire alarm, we do both on the same visit. Larger buildings are priced after a free survey, and repairs are quoted at a fixed price first.
How often does emergency lighting need testing?
A short function test every month, normally done by someone on site and written in the logbook, and a full rated-duration test once a year by a competent person, as BS 5266-1 and BS EN 50172 set out.
Can you test the emergency lighting and service the fire alarm together?
Yes, and most customers prefer it: one visit, one contractor and both certificates on the day. Emergency lighting is part of every servicing contract we offer.
What happens if fittings fail the test?
We replace failed batteries and lamps on the day where we can. Anything else, such as a whole fitting or a missing sign, comes back to you as a fixed price before we do it.
Who should do the monthly emergency lighting test in a block of flats?
Usually the managing agent's site team or caretaker, recorded in the logbook. We set up the routine on our first visit, or fit self-test fittings so the monthly check runs itself, and we do the annual full-duration test.
