Emergency lighting in Merton
Across Merton we test emergency lighting in offices and shops in Wimbledon and Morden, in the corridors and stairs of converted flats and HMOs, and in warehouses and workshops on the Mitcham industrial estates, where open areas need lighting as well as the escape routes. In industrial units the fittings take a beating from dust, damp and forklift traffic, so we check the light output as well as whether each fitting comes on. Everything we test goes in the logbook, and anything that fails is quoted before we do it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does emergency lighting testing cost in Merton?
The annual full-duration test is from £150 + VAT with a certificate. If we service your fire alarm, we do both on the same visit. Larger buildings are priced after a free survey, and repairs are quoted at a fixed price first.
How often does emergency lighting need testing?
A short function test every month, normally done by someone on site and written in the logbook, and a full rated-duration test once a year by a competent person, as BS 5266-1 and BS EN 50172 set out.
Can you test the emergency lighting and service the fire alarm together?
Yes, and most customers prefer it: one visit, one contractor and both certificates on the day. Emergency lighting is part of every servicing contract we offer.
What happens if fittings fail the test?
We replace failed batteries and lamps on the day where we can. Anything else, such as a whole fitting or a missing sign, comes back to you as a fixed price before we do it.
Do warehouses in Mitcham need emergency lighting in the open floor areas?
Usually, yes. BS 5266-1 covers open areas larger than 60 square metres and high-risk task areas as well as the escape routes, so a warehouse floor normally needs it. We check the existing layout on the annual test and tell you if there are gaps.
